Look for knot pattern, board length availability, milling quality, and whether the supplier differentiates wall cladding from bench stock.
Hemlock can support a calm contemporary interior, but the decision should still include moisture condition, fastening plan, and the project’s desired maintenance approach.
Thermo-aspen
Thermo-aspen refers to aspen modified through a thermal process. The process and supplier documentation should be clear: a name alone does not describe the final board quality or installation guidance. The darker tone can be a design advantage, while any change in material behavior should be evaluated through the supplier’s specifications and a sample.
Ask whether the product is intended for benches, walls, or both; whether it needs special handling; and how its color may vary batch to batch. Do not assume every thermally modified product behaves identically.
Spruce
