How We Verify Sauna Specifications
Read Sauna Blueprint’s specification method: primary-source transcription, no-inference rules, conflict handling, scope labels, and a clear “not stated” field.
A specification is only as good as its source trail
Sauna Blueprint is a reference site, not a product-testing lab or a retailer. We record published product information so a buyer can compare what documentation says and, equally important, see what it does not say. We do not claim hands-on testing, inferred performance, unverified availability, user reviews, or fabricated specifications.
Our starting principle is simple: a field should be traceable to a source, named precisely, and left blank or marked “not stated” when the source does not support it. A comparison table is more useful when it preserves uncertainty than when it fills every cell with an assumption.
Source hierarchy
We prefer the most direct current manufacturer material available for the exact product: an installation manual, technical sheet, official product page, or official support material. Retailer material can help identify a model or surface a question, but it is weaker than a current primary document and may represent a different revision or market.
When sources disagree, we do not choose the value that makes a product appear easier to install. We mark the conflict, preserve the sources in internal records, and seek current primary confirmation. A field remains unresolved until its scope and product match are clear.

Manual transcription, not calculation
We transcribe manufacturer statements; we do not derive installation requirements from nominal output, labels, or neighboring models. This is especially important for electrical information. Sauna Blueprint does not publish generic wire-gauge instructions, electrical selection rules, or conductor-capacity tables. A correct site design depends on the product manual, run length, ambient temperature, conduit fill, derating, local amendments, and site conditions, and should be reviewed by a licensed electrician and the AHJ.
We record grouped multi-circuit supply as a specific arrangement rather than summing separate circuits into a single figure. In the current dataset, 20 heater models are identified as requiring grouped multi-circuit supply: 14 Harvia, 3 HUUM, and 3 Finnleo. The separate circuits must never be collapsed into a total for comparison convenience.
“Not stated” is evidence of absence in the source—not absence of a requirement
A field shown as “not stated” means the reviewed source does not state that field. It does not mean the figure is zero, optional, unnecessary, or unavailable from the manufacturer. It tells the buyer what to ask for next.
For example, among 68 electric-heater models in the current dataset, zero Harvia and zero Tylö records publish a breaker size; HUUM publishes breaker size and minimum wire size for 21 models, Finnleo for 3, Saunum for 2, and Homecraft for 2. This is a catalog-documentation observation. It must not be read as electrical guidance or as an invitation to calculate a substitute answer.
Scope labels prevent misleading comparison
A claim can be accurate about one object and misleading when attached to another. The infrared EMF field is a clear example. Of 25 infrared cabins, only 2 have a published third-party report; both measure a heater component rather than the assembled cabin, while marketing describes the full cabin. We label that as a component-level report, not a whole-cabin test. We do not convert it into a cabin-wide performance claim.
The same discipline applies to kits. Of 52 kit and prefab records, only 8 name the exact heater model included; 15 identify only a brand, 19 only a kW figure, and 10 say nothing. “Heater included” is recorded at the disclosure level the source supports, not expanded into a model-specific specification.
Manufacturer rules stay attributed
Where a manufacturer offers selection guidance, we quote and link the specific rule rather than inventing a blended industry formula. Harvia says an average of 1 kW per cubic metre, adds 1.2 m³ per m² of qualifying non-insulated surface, and separately applies a 1.5 factor for non-insulated log interiors ({harvia}). HUUM says 1 kW per 1 m³ / 35.3 ft³ and adds 1.0 m³ per m² / 3.3 ft³ per ft² for qualifying uninsulated surfaces, including logs ({huum}; {huum_eu}).
These methods can give different answers for the same room. We preserve the difference rather than averaging it into one coefficient. A buyer should use the method associated with the manufacturer of the actual heater under consideration and check its current manual.
How readers can use the data responsibly
Use filters to narrow a research set. Then open the exact model documentation, confirm what is included, and create a project record. For electrical and permitting questions, take that record to a licensed electrician and the local AHJ. For a kit, insist on an exact bill of materials. For an EMF claim, request the report and read its test scope.
Our aim is useful uncertainty: enough structure to ask better questions, with clear boundaries around what a dataset cannot decide.
Independence and incentives
Sixteen brands in the dataset run no affiliate program: Harvia, HUUM, Finnleo, Saunum, Amerec, Scandia, Polar, Narvi, Tylö, Helo, Almost Heaven, Dundalk/LeisureCraft, Thermory, Baltic Leisure, Sauna House, and Dynamic Saunas. The presence or absence of an affiliate program is not a quality rating. It is recorded to make commercial relationships visible rather than silently shaping inclusion or ordering.

Corrections and updates
Product documentation changes. When a reader or manufacturer supplies a current primary document, we compare it to the field, confirm the exact product match, and update the record with the revised source context. We do not silently preserve a stale field just because it makes a comparison table look complete.
Readers can help by sending the exact manual cover, model identifier, relevant page, and a direct official link where available. That allows a correction to be precise rather than based on a paraphrase.
Turn this guide into a decision file
The next useful action after reading about specification research is to make a small, dated decision file. It does not need to be a formal drawing set. It does need to gather primary sources, model identifiers, revision context, a source log, and conflict notes. Store original documents rather than a link alone; product pages and dealer listings can change after an order is placed. If a source applies to a product family, note the exact variant it is meant to cover.
Create a short table with four columns: item, source, decision, and open question. The item might be a glass panel, controller, cabin, vent, bench material, or permit contact depending on the project. The source should be a manufacturer manual, an official page, an approved drawing, or written authority guidance. A decision is only complete when it names the actual product or construction detail. “Will choose later” belongs in the open-question column, where it remains visible.
Review changes rather than carrying assumptions forward
Sauna projects often evolve in ordinary ways. A door gets wider, a kit is substituted, a control becomes optional, the available site shifts, or a finish decision changes the room. None of these changes is inherently problematic. The risk is preserving the old assumption after the supporting document no longer matches. Re-open the decision file whenever the exact model, finished dimensions, layout, or product configuration changes.
Use a simple revision note: date, what changed, which manual or drawing was checked, and who needs to see the change. This is especially helpful before concealed work or final delivery. It also makes a useful distinction between information that is confirmed and information that merely sounds plausible in a showroom conversation.
Give each participant the right question
The owner can assemble documents and identify decisions. The manufacturer can explain its product documentation. A dealer can confirm what is quoted and supplied. A builder or designer can coordinate the enclosure and layout. A licensed electrician reviews the exact appliance documentation and site conditions for electrical work. The local permitting authority or AHJ explains the local approval and inspection path. Clear roles prevent a planning guide from being mistaken for installation instructions.
For any question with a safety, approval, or site-condition consequence, attach the relevant manual and plan when asking it. A precise question gets a more useful answer than “Will this work?” For example: “Please review this exact model manual with this finished room plan and identify items that must be resolved before the walls are closed.” Do not ask any party to substitute a generic internet table for the project documents.
Set a purchase gate
Before approving an order or releasing construction, confirm that the decision file identifies source type, exact wording, scope, date, field status, and every unresolved question. Then verify that the product documentation has been shared with the parties whose work it affects. If a key item is still “not stated,” request the manufacturer document or written clarification. Do not convert an absent field into a favorable assumption just to keep the schedule moving.
A purchase gate is not delay for its own sake. It is a way to prevent an easy-to-order product from becoming a hard-to-coordinate installation. The strongest project record is specific, current, and honest about what has not yet been established.
